Polk & Co.'s Illustrated Historical Atlas of Kent County, Michigan, originally published in 1894 by R.L. Polk & Co. of Grand Rapids, Michigan. This edition reproduces the plat maps in full color as they appeared in the original, with all remaining pages — index, historical sketches, biographical sketches, and advertisements — reproduced in black and white.

Compiled at the height of the American county atlas era, this volume documents Kent County during a period of rapid agricultural settlement and the steady industrial growth of Grand Rapids. R.L. Polk & Co. — best known for its city directories published across the United States — drew on its directory-gathering apparatus to assemble landowner data, business listings, and biographical material for this atlas. Each township is presented with detailed plat maps showing landowner names, parcel acreage, school sections, churches, cemeteries, roads, rail lines, lakes, and streams — a snapshot of rural Michigan life on the eve of the twentieth century.

Contents include:

Outline Map of Kent County and Index Map to Kent County

Township plat maps for Ada, Algoma, Alpine, Bowne, Byron, Caledonia, Cannon, Cascade, Courtland, Gaines, Grand Rapids, Grattan, Lowell, Nelson, Oakfield, Paris, Plainfield, Solon, Sparta, Spencer, Tyrone, Vergennes, Walker, and Wyoming townships

Village and station plats for Ada, Alaska, Alto, Byron Centre, Caledonia Station, Cannonsburg, Cascade Springs, Casnovia, Cedar Springs, Corinth, Fisher's Station, Grand Rapids (with Riverside Addition), Grandville, Grattan Centre, Hammond Station, Kent City, Lisbon, Lowell, Rockford, Ross Station, Sand Lake, and Sparta

State maps of Michigan and Wisconsin

Map of the United States

Chart of the World

Descriptive Sketch of the System of Government Land Surveys

Historical Sketch of Kent County

Biographical Sketches

Complete Index to Illustrations and Advertisements, with period advertisements from Grand Rapids businesses including Berkey & Gay, Grand Rapids Brewing Co., Pacific Mutual Life Insurance Company, Crozier Brothers, Adams & Hart, Studley & Barclay, John Dregge & Co., E.
