First published in Columbus in 1872 by J. A. Caldwell and H. T. Gould, Caldwell's Atlas of Franklin Co. and the City of Columbus, Ohio was compiled from actual surveys and engraved by Worley & Bracher of Philadelphia. This edition is a complete facsimile of the original atlas, printed in full color to preserve the tone and character of the original pages.
The atlas opens with a table of air-line distances, a two-page historical sketch of Franklin County, a state map of Ohio, and a county map, followed by detailed township maps covering all of Franklin County — Hamilton, Truro, Jefferson, Plain, Blendon, Mifflin, Montgomery, Clinton, Perry, Sharon, Franklin, Jackson, Pleasant, Prairie, Brown, Norwich, Madison, and Washington — with village plans of Westerville, Dublin, Hilliard, Worthington, Grove City, Groveport, Reynoldsburg, New Albany, Gahanna, Clintonville, Winchester, Lockbourne, Shadeville, Alton, Harrisburgh, Georgesville, and more. Township maps name individual landowners and carry business directories of local residents and farmers in their margins, making it possible to locate an ancestor's farm parcel by parcel. A double-page outline map of Columbus and nine detailed ward maps show the city street by street and lot by lot, and eight pages of lithographed views depict homes, farms, and businesses of the era.
70 pages. 8.5" x 11". Full color. Paperback.
