This volume is a complete, full-color facsimile of Volume 2 of the Sanborn fire insurance map survey of Cleveland, Ohio, first issued in 1886 — the second of the three volumes that together mapped the entire city in 1886–1887. Where Volume 1 opens the survey with the downtown core, Volume 2 carries the mapping across the rest of the city on both sides of the Cuyahoga: the near West Side (the former Ohio City) along Detroit, Lorain, Bridge, Pearl, Fulton, and Franklin Avenue; the south-side streets of today's Tremont — Professor, College, Literary, University, and Tremont — with the Scranton and Clark Avenue corridors; and the East Side along Woodland, Scovill, Cedar, Case, Sterling, and Perry. All forty double-page plates, numbered 41 through 80, are reproduced with the volume's street index and key map from the master scans in the Library of Congress Sanborn Maps Collection.

Sanborn surveyors recorded the city building by building: every structure's footprint, height, and construction material appears in the original color coding, with street names and house numbers throughout. The volume's own index lists hundreds of named businesses and institutions drawn on the plates — breweries including Schlather, Leisy, and Oppmann; the Cuyahoga Steam Furnace Co. and Lake Erie Iron Co.'s rolling mill; lumber yards, foundries, and machine shops; and churches and schools from St. Malachi and St. Patrick's to the Outhwaite and Tremont public schools.

For anyone researching a Cleveland property, business, or family, these plates show the West Side, Tremont, and the East Side avenues as they stood in 1886 in remarkable detail — an essential reference for genealogists, house historians, and collectors of Cleveland history. Volume 1 (plates 1–40) is also available separately, and Volume 3 completes the survey.
