The complete 1890 Sanborn fire-insurance atlas of Trenton, New Jersey, reprinted in full color.
In 1890 the Sanborn-Perris Map Company of New York surveyed Trenton for the fire-insurance trade, drawing the state capital on the Delaware at fifty feet to the inch. Every building is shown to scale and color-coded for construction (yellow for frame, pink for brick, blue for stone), with heights, uses, windows, party walls, hydrants, water mains and fire stations all marked. The index lists every street and every named business, church, school, hotel, pottery and mill with the sheet it appears on, and the key map places the colored sheet grid over the whole city, with notes on the water works and the fire department.
The forty-two double-page sheets work block by block from the stores, banks and hotels along State, Broad and Warren Streets, the State House and the Court House, through the potteries, rubber works and iron mills that made Trenton an industrial capital, the Roebling wire works, the passenger depot and yards of the Pennsylvania Railroad, the Delaware & Raritan Canal and the Assunpink Creek mills, to the residential streets out to Chambersburg, Millham and the Rutherford Land Company tracts.
This edition is an unabridged facsimile republication of the atlas: the index, the key map and all forty-two double-page map sheets, each reproduced across two facing pages. Ideal for local historians, genealogists, architects, preservationists and anyone tracing a Trenton address back to 1890.
