The complete 1898 Sanborn fire-insurance atlas of Bridgeport, Connecticut, reprinted in full color.

In 1898 the Sanborn-Perris Map Company of New York surveyed Bridgeport for the fire-insurance trade, drawing the city on the harbor and Long Island Sound at fifty feet to the inch. Every building is shown to scale and color-coded for construction (yellow for frame, pink for brick, blue for stone), with heights, uses, windows, party walls, hydrants, water mains and fire stations all marked. The index lists every street and every named business, church, school, hotel and factory with the sheet it appears on, and the key map places the colored sheet grid over the whole city, with notes on the water works and the fire department.

The seventy-three numbered sheets work block by block from the stores, banks and hotels along Main, Water and Fairfield Streets, through the passenger depot and yards of the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad, the sewing-machine, cartridge, brass, corset and carriage works along the harbor and the Pequonnock River, the wharves and coal yards of the East Side, to the residential streets from Seaside Park and the South End out to the North End and East Bridgeport.

This edition is an unabridged facsimile republication of the atlas: the title and index sheet, the key map and all seventy-three numbered map sheets. Ideal for local historians, genealogists, architects, preservationists and anyone tracing a Bridgeport address back to 1898.
