The complete 1900 Sanborn fire-insurance atlas of Erie, Pennsylvania, reprinted in full color.

In 1900 the Sanborn-Perris Map Company of New York surveyed Erie for the fire-insurance trade, drawing the city on Presque Isle Bay at fifty feet to the inch. Every building is shown to scale and color-coded for construction (yellow for frame, pink for brick, blue for stone), with heights, uses, windows, party walls, hydrants, water mains and fire stations all marked. The index sheet lists every street and every named business, church, school, hotel, foundry and mill with the sheet it appears on, and the key map places the colored sheet grid over the whole city, with notes on the water works and the fire department.

The eighty-two numbered sheets work block by block from the stores, banks and hotels along State and Peach Streets, through the public dock, the grain elevators, boat yards and fish houses of the harbor front, the passenger and freight depots and yards of the Lake Shore, the Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia & Erie, the foundries, boiler works, stove works and mills along the tracks, to the residential streets of the numbered avenues and the outlying blocks toward the city line.

This edition is an unabridged facsimile republication of the atlas: the index sheet, the key map and all eighty-two numbered map sheets. Ideal for local historians, genealogists, architects, preservationists and anyone tracing an Erie address back to 1900.
