The complete 1901 Sanborn fire-insurance atlas of Wilmington, Delaware, reprinted in full color.

In 1901 the Sanborn-Perris Map Company of New York surveyed Wilmington for the fire-insurance trade, drawing the city at fifty feet to the inch. Every building is shown to scale and color-coded for construction (yellow for frame, pink for brick, blue for stone), with heights, uses, windows, party walls, hydrants, water mains and fire stations all marked. The index sheet lists every street and every named business, church, school, hotel and factory with the sheet it appears on, and the key map places the coloured sheet grid over the whole city between the Christina River and the Brandywine.

The seventy-three numbered sheets work block by block through the business district along Market Street, the shipyards, car shops, tanneries and mills along the Christina, the railroad yards and the residential streets from the Brandywine to Delaware Avenue; six skeleton sheets record the block outlines of the densest wards.

This edition is an unabridged facsimile republication of the atlas: the title and index sheet, the key map, all seventy-three numbered map sheets and the six skeleton sheets. Ideal for local historians, genealogists, architects, preservationists and anyone tracing a Wilmington address back to 1901.
