The first volume of the 1902 Sanborn fire-insurance atlas of Spokane, Washington, reprinted complete and in full color.
In 1902 the Sanborn Map Company of New York surveyed Spokane for the fire-insurance trade, drawing the city at fifty feet to the inch in two bound volumes. Every building is shown to scale and color-coded for construction (yellow for frame, pink for brick, blue for stone), with heights, uses, windows, party walls, hydrants, water mains and fire stations all marked. Two index sheets list every street and every named business, church, school, hotel and mill with the sheet it appears on, and the key map places the coloured sheet grid of both volumes over the whole city on both banks of the Spokane River.
Volume One's one hundred and thirteen numbered sheets work block by block through the business district rebuilt after the great fire of 1889, along Riverside, Sprague and First avenues, the mills and railroad yards along the river and the falls, and the residential streets beyond. Volume Two, published separately, completes the survey.
This edition is an unabridged facsimile republication of Volume One: the title page, the two index sheets, the key map and all one hundred and thirteen numbered map sheets. Ideal for local historians, genealogists, architects, preservationists and anyone tracing a Spokane address back to 1902.
