Standard Atlas of Walworth County, Wisconsin, including a plat book of the villages, cities and townships of the county, compiled and published by Hennessey & Co. of Delavan in 1907 — reproduced here in full color from the Library of Congress copy, complete: the county outline map, all sixteen township plates, every village and city plat, the lake shore plates, the patrons' and business directories, the analysis of the United States land survey, and the state map of Wisconsin.
The township plates carry the name of every landowner lettered across their acreage, with the roads, school houses, churches, cemeteries and mills of 1907: Bloomfield, Darien, Delavan, East Troy, Geneva, Lafayette, LaGrange, Linn, Lyons, Richmond, Sharon, Spring Prairie, Sugar Creek, Troy, Walworth and Whitewater.
What sets this county apart is the water. Geneva Lake is mapped in three plates — east, middle and west — with the shore divided property by property and every owner named, and Delavan Lake, Lauderdale Lakes, Lake Beulah and Williams Bay get plates of their own. For anyone working on the lake houses, this is the shoreline before the twentieth century rebuilt it.
The cities are mapped at length: Lake Geneva in north and south halves, Delavan in two, Elkhorn the county seat in two, and Whitewater across three plates for its east, middle and west parts. The villages follow — Allen's Grove, Darien, East Troy, Fayette, Fontana, Genoa Junction, Honey Creek, Little Prairie, Lyons, Springfield, Spring Prairie Corners, Troy, Troy Center, Vienna, Walworth and Zenda — down to a plate of a single section, Section 11 of Walworth Township.
The volume closes with the patrons' directory and a county business directory, naming residents with their post office and section. For anyone tracing a Walworth County family, a farm, or a house on the lake, this is an essential reference for genealogists, house historians, and collectors of Wisconsin history.
