The complete 1915 Sanborn fire-insurance atlas of Tulsa, Oklahoma, reprinted in full color.
In 1915 the Sanborn Map Company of New York surveyed Tulsa for the fire-insurance trade, drawing the oil-boom city on the Arkansas River at fifty feet to the inch. Every building is shown to scale and color-coded for construction (yellow for frame, pink for brick, blue for stone), with heights, uses, windows, party walls, hydrants, water mains and fire stations all marked. The index sheet lists every street and every named business, church, school, hotel and plant with the sheet it appears on; the map of the congested district shows the downtown blocks at two hundred feet to the inch; and the key map places the colored sheet grid over the whole city.
The fifty-one numbered sheets work block by block from the stores, banks, hotels and office buildings along Main Street, Boston Avenue and the numbered streets, through the passenger depots and yards of the Frisco, the Katy and the Midland Valley railroads, the refineries, oil-well supply houses, warehouses and cotton gins along the tracks, to the residential streets north of the tracks and out to the city limits.
This edition is an unabridged facsimile republication of the atlas: the title page, the index sheet, the map of the congested district, the key map and all fifty-one numbered map sheets. Ideal for local historians, genealogists, architects, preservationists and anyone tracing a Tulsa address back to 1915.
