Facsimile of the 1919 Sanborn fire-insurance atlas of Petoskey, Michigan, reproduced in full color from the Library of Congress copy. It covers the Emmet County resort city of 6,000 people in winter and 12,000 in summer on Little Traverse Bay, from the stores, hotels and Court House of Lake and Mitchell Streets and the mills along the Bear River, out along the shore to Rosedale, the Bay View camp ground and Bay Shore, and inland to the villages of Oden, Alanson, Clarion and Walloon Lake.

The twenty-eight numbered sheets that follow the key map work block by block from the stores, banks and offices along Lake, Mitchell, Howard, Bay and Petoskey Streets - the County Court House and Jail, the Carnegie Library, the Post Office, the Elks' Lodge, the K. O. T. M. Hall, the Temple Theatre, the Rosenthal and Fochtman department stores, Clark's Tavern, the Cushman House, Park House, Grand Hotel, Petrie and Braun hotels and the Hotels Babcock, Flint, Franklin and Perry - through the Pere Marquette passenger and freight depots, round house and yards, the Grand Rapids & Indiana depots and round house, the Michigan Transit Company of Chicago freight house, the Petoskey Rug, Boat, Iron Works and Canning companies, the Burnett foundry and machine works, the Hankey Milling Company, the Blackmer Rotary Pump Company, the McManus lumber company saw mill, the Michigan Maple Block Company, the Northern Michigan Pulp Company, the De Arment brick yard, the Lutz & Schramm and Libby, McNeill & Libby pickle-salting stations, the Petoskey Portland Cement Company and Northern Lime & Stone Company at Bay Shore, the Michigan Tanning & Extract Company at Kegomic, the Hinkley broom-handle factory and Lasswell shingle mill at Alanson, the Alanson Woodenware bowl factory, the lumber and shingle mill at Clarion, the Masters and Hass boat works at Walloon Lake, the Petoskey and Bay Shore gas plant, the City Light and Power Company, the water works, the Crystal ice house, the Standard Oil station and the greenhouses, to the Petoskey and Lockwood hospitals, the County Infirmary and Fair Grounds, the High School, the Central, Lincoln and Sheridan public schools, St. Francis Xavier Catholic church and convent, the Franciscan Monastery, Emanuel Episcopal, the Methodist, Presbyterian, Christian, Christian Science, Parr Memorial Baptist, Evangelical, Mennonite and Seventh Day Adventist churches and the B'nai Israel Synagogue, the Bay View Camp Ground Association buildings, Tabernacle Park, the Terrace Inn and the Kenilworth and Bay View hotels, the Walloon Summer Hotel and Fern Cottage, and the residential streets of Petoskey, Rosedale, Emmet City, Bay View, Bay Shore, Oden, Alanson, Clarion and Walloon Lake.

In October 1919 the Sanborn Map Company of New York surveyed Petoskey, Bay View and the neighbouring Emmet County villages for the fire-insurance trade, drawing them building by building. Every building is shown to scale and color-coded for construction (yellow for frame, pink for brick, blue for stone), with heights, uses, windows, party walls, hydrants, water mains and fire stations all marked. The index lists every street and every named business, church, school, hotel, mill and works with the sheet it appears on, and the key map places the colored sheet grid over the whole city.

This edition is an unabridged facsimile republication of the atlas: the combined title and index sheet and all twenty-nine numbered map sheets, sheet 1 being the key map with its report on the water works and fire department, the others covering the city on Little Traverse Bay, Rosedale, Emmet City, Bay View, Kegomic and Bay Shore, and the outlying villages of Oden, Alanson, Clarion and Walloon Lake. Ideal for local historians, genealogists, architects, preservationists and anyone tracing a Petoskey address back to 1919.
