Facsimile of the 1920 Sanborn fire-insurance atlas of Greenwich, Connecticut, reproduced in full color from the Library of Congress copy. It covers the whole town on Long Island Sound, from the stores, hotels and Town Hall of Greenwich Avenue in the borough, out through Belle Haven, Field Point, Rock Ridge, Byram, Pemberwick, Glenville and East Port Chester in the west to Cos Cob, Mianus, North Mianus, Riverside and Sound Beach in the east, with the estates, harbors and coves between.

The sixty-nine numbered sheets work from the stores, banks, hotels and theatre along Greenwich Avenue, Putnam Avenue, Railroad Avenue and Havemeyer Place in the borough - the Town Hall, the Post Office, the Armory, the Greenwich Library, the Greenwich Trust Company, Putnam Trust, Smith, Meany and Quinn buildings, the Greenwich Theatre, the Y. M. C. A. and Y. W. C. A., the Pickwick Arms, Hotel Putnam, Commercial Hotel, Fairfield House and the Maples - through the New York, New Haven & Hartford passenger depots at Greenwich, Cos Cob, Riverside and Sound Beach, the freight house and round house, the railroad power plant at Cos Cob, the Connecticut Light and Power Company, the Maher Brothers lumber and coal yard, the Greenwich Sash and Door Company, the Greenwich Yacht Yard, the Russell, Burdsall & Ward bolt works and the American Felt Company mill at Glenville, the Connecticut Engineering and Metal Products Company, the Empire Foundry, the Mertz planing mill and the W. A. Mills brass works at East Port Chester, the Mianus Manufacturing Company's plush mill, the Borg Products chocolate works, Palmer Brothers' marine-engine works and cider mill, the Dalton lathe works, the Arbor Press, the Roberts surgical-dressing laboratories, the Standard Oil depot and the Greenwich disposal plant, to the Greenwich Hospital, the Hitchcock and Blythewood sanitariums, the Greenwich High School and Greenwich Academy, Rosemary Hall, the Ely School, the Brunswick School and the Edgewood School, the Havemeyer, Hamilton Avenue, Glenville, Byram, Cos Cob, New Lebanon, North Mianus and Sound Beach schools, Christ Church, St. Mary's, St. Catherine's and Sacred Heart Roman Catholic churches, the Congregational, Methodist, Baptist, Lutheran and Danish churches, the Indian Harbor and Riverside yacht clubs, the Belle Haven Casino, the Greenwich Country Club, the Field Club, the Sound Beach Golf and County Club, the Edgewood, Kathmere and Greenwich inns, Bruce Memorial Park, Keofferam Park, and the estates and residential streets of Belle Haven, Field Point, Rock Ridge, Byram, Glenville, Cos Cob, Riverside and Sound Beach.

In 1920 the Sanborn Map Company of New York surveyed the town of Greenwich for the fire-insurance trade, drawing the business streets of the borough at fifty feet to the inch, the villages at one hundred feet and the outlying estates at two hundred feet to the inch. Every building is shown to scale and color-coded for construction (yellow for frame, pink for brick, blue for stone), with heights, uses, windows, party walls, hydrants, water mains and fire stations all marked. The index lists every street and every named business, church, school, hotel, mill and works with the sheet it appears on, and the key map places the colored sheet grid over the whole city.

This edition is an unabridged facsimile republication of the atlas: the title sheet, the two index sheets, the key map in two parts with the report, and all sixty-nine numbered map sheets, 1 to 69. Ideal for local historians, genealogists, architects, preservationists and anyone tracing a Greenwich address back to 1920.
