Facsimile of the 1925 Sanborn fire-insurance atlas of Coshocton and Roscoe, Ohio, reproduced in full color from the Library of Congress copy. It covers the Coshocton County seat of 12,000 people where the Walhonding and Tuscarawas meet to form the Muskingum, from the Court House square and the stores, banks and hotels of Main Street out along the Pennsylvania and Wheeling and Lake Erie railroads to the china, glass, paper and advertising-novelty works, the Fair Grounds and the residential streets, and across the river to the canal village of Roscoe.
The twenty-nine numbered sheets that follow work block by block from the stores, banks and offices along Main Street, Chestnut Street and Second, Third, Fourth and Sixth Streets - the Coshocton County Court House and Jail, the City Hall, the Post Office, the Public Library, the Telephone Exchange, the Fire Department, the Sixth Street Theatre, the Park, Courtland and Central hotels, the Hotel Barnes and the Stage Coach Tavern - through the Pennsylvania Railroad passenger and freight depots, the Wheeling and Lake Erie depots, the Pope-Gosser China Company, the Coshocton Glass Corporation, the Hunt Crawford paper works and the Coshocton Straw Paper Company, the American Art Works' Standard and Tuscarora plants, the H. H. Beach sign works, Beach Enameling Company and Beach Leather Company, the Meeks calendar works, the Novelty Advertising, Marshall and Maxwell manufacturing companies, the Levangood glove and garment factory and the Coshocton Glove Company, the Admiral Tire and Rubber Company, the Stradivara piano-bench works, the James B. Clow and Sons foundry, the King Foundry, the Keagy and Lear and Wehrle machine shops, the Coshocton Brick Company, the Balch Brothers, Hanley and Empire flour mills, the Gleason, Goodwin-Timmon and Coshocton lumber companies and the Buckeye Planing Mill, the Coshocton Creamery, Fur Company and Peoples Ice Company, the Eureka Laundry, the Standard Oil and Coshocton Oil companies, the Ohio Service Company's power house and storage tanks and the city water works, to the Coshocton Hospital, the Meizer Sanitorium and the County Infirmary, the Central High School and the Lincoln, Bancroft, Cherry Street and Sycamore Street schools, Sacred Heart Catholic church and school, Trinity Episcopal, Grace M. E., Emmanuel Lutheran, the German Evangelical, First Baptist, First Presbyterian, Christian, Church of God, Nazarene, Park Avenue U. B. and Shiloh Baptist churches and the Salvation Army, the County Fair Grounds, and the residential streets of the city and of Roscoe with its school, post office, churches and the Ohio Canal.
In August 1925 the Sanborn Map Company of New York surveyed Coshocton and Roscoe for the fire-insurance trade, drawing them at fifty feet to the inch. Every building is shown to scale and color-coded for construction (yellow for frame, pink for brick, blue for stone), with heights, uses, windows, party walls, hydrants, water mains and fire stations all marked. The index lists every street and every named business, church, school, hotel, mill and works with the sheet it appears on, and the key map places the colored sheet grid over the whole city.
This edition is an unabridged facsimile republication of the atlas: all thirty numbered map sheets, 1 to 30, sheet 1 being the combined title, index and key map sheet with its report on the water works and fire department, the others covering the city from the Court House square and Main Street to the potteries, glass works and advertising-novelty factories, the Fair Grounds, the Clow foundry and the village of Roscoe across the Ohio Canal. Ideal for local historians, genealogists, architects, preservationists and anyone tracing a Coshocton address back to 1925.
