This volume is a complete color facsimile of the Sanborn Map Company's fire insurance atlas of Elyria, Ohio, published in New York in April 1925. All forty-one sheets of the original edition are reproduced here in full color, preserving the Sanborn color key that distinguishes brick, frame, stone, and fireproof construction at a glance.

Surveyed when the Lorain County seat counted 24,000 residents, the atlas records the city building by building along both branches of the Black River: street addresses, construction materials, building heights and uses, business names, water mains, and hydrants. Elyria's industrial base appears in detail, including the Garford Foundry Company, the Elyria Iron & Steel Company, the Columbia Steel Company, the Duplex Manufacturing & Foundry Company, the Worthington Ball Company, the Fox Furnace Company, the American Crucible Products Company, and the Colson Company. Civic landmarks throughout the sheets include the Lorain County Court House and jail, Memorial Hospital, the Elks Temple, the Rialto Theatre, Cascade Park, and the New York Central and Baltimore & Ohio railroad depots and round house. A full street and specials index on the title sheet locates every church, school, factory, addition, and allotment.

An essential reference for genealogists, house historians, and collectors of Lorain County history.
