This is a facsimile reprint of the original catalog. Hermann H. Heiser Saddlery Co. Catalog No. 14 is a circa 1908–1910 retail catalog from one of the American West's most storied leather goods manufacturers. Published by the Denver, Colorado firm then operating under the founder's three sons following Hermann Heiser's death in September 1904, the catalog presents the full "House of Heiser" product line, including gun scabbards, pistol holsters, belts, and novelty leather goods.
Born in Altenburg, Saxony in 1836, Hermann Heiser emigrated to New York in September 1854 and spent the next several years perfecting his trade in Iowa and Wisconsin. In 1858 he opened his first saddlery and harness business in Iowa County, Wisconsin. Heiser first reached Denver in December 1863, wintered there, and in April 1864 opened a shop in Black Hawk, Colorado with a partner, adding a Central City branch the following year. In 1874 he relocated permanently to Denver, purchasing the saddlery business of William Merchant and establishing what would become the Hermann H. Heiser Saddlery Company. His Triple H trademark, registered with the State of Colorado in 1878, was the ninth trademark registered in the state. After his three sons took over in 1904, Ewald Heiser eventually consolidated ownership and ran the firm until its 1945 sale to the Denver Dry Goods Company. Catalog No. 14 offers a detailed window into the firm's product line at the height of its reputation.
